This course provides practical training for workers within an education and care setting to respond to first aid emergencies in line with legal and workplace requirements, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, and other national clinical bodies.
It teaches how to identify illness or injury, access emergency services, and safely provide first aid treatment using action plans, equipment, and resources. Key skills covered include CPR, defibrillation, administering an autoinjector for anaphylaxis, asthma medication, and immobilisation techniques for envenomation, fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, bleeding, shock, and other conditions.
You will also learn basic anatomy, physiology, and the differences in treatment between adults, children, and infants. The course prepares you to manage acute illnesses in children, communicate critical details effectively, and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Additionally, it includes training on completing incident documentation, recognising psychological impacts, debriefing for improved response, and providing emotional support to children as needed.
